I'm sitting in my studio, typing away to the sounds of shoveling, snowblowing, yelling kids and barking dogs. It must be March in western New York! I don't think I'll ever share the obsession of driveway clearing displayed by our neighbors. I haven't thus far. It's ridiculous, actually (and I don't think the street needs shoveling, but some do…phew…lot to unpack there and I want NOTHING to do with it).
Anywho…
There's a new album being mixed and mastered right now! DISTILLATE is the title of said album and it is my first full-length, all-music release in nearly ten years. I've spent the beginnig of 2023 going through over one hundred songs that were recorded between 2020 and 2021 to bring you ten pieces of music that I love very, very much.
Distillate is just that: a boiling down of those remaing songs from the “Pandemic Sessions,” but in the instrumetal vein I feel that this album is a good follow-up to last year's Which Way to the Starlite and will be the rich creamy center when the CD Trilogy is completed in 2024.
At the beginning of '23, I had planned to release another album with vocals. While working on lyrics for that album, I began to see that my music was being used quite a bit by other artists. I also began to see a busy year ahead with outside work, travel and some necessary time off and thought, “Well, no better time than the present to do an instrumental release.”
After that decision was made, everything fell into place rather quickly. I narrowed it down to 35 songs. Then 20. Then 9. I spent a week with those nine songs and felt it needed one more track. So, as it stands, Distillate is ten songs that run just under thirty minutes (don't even start with attention span discussions).
Once again, Engineer Steve Forney will be mixing and mastering (and CO-PRODUCING) the album for a CD and streaming release this September. And, as always, I'll be handling the rest.
Stay tuned!
